Mayday
No emergency just healing
May has been rainy so far April brought us so much rain the grass is actually green. In central Texas we consider this a blessing most of the time grass is brown. I have yet another med change so I am hanging in there watching the rain and writing sometimes. My four o’clock wake up is my writing time but the bed beckons when the rain is on the roof. I have been dreaming a lot (thanks Chantex) and writing little stories based on the dreams.I do have a little kids story to share. This is a first draft but I think I like it. I hope you enjoy it as well. I am also including one of my dream stories.
Gator Girl
Deep in the swamp where the light don’t hit. A tiny baby girl was cooing and giggling. Not one skeeter took a bite , the swamp took her as one of its own.
A big old alligator called Jean Baptist was getting closer and that baby looked like a snack for that gator. Closer and closer he came, just about the time he opened his jaws he felt a wack on his head. It was his love, Marie the most beautiful and smart gator in the whole swamp. “Jean Baptist what be wrong wit chew, that a pretty baby girl and I want to raise her as our own”. Jean Baptist started to argue his tummy was rumbling but he knew that whatever Marie put her mind too was a done thing. They called the baby Sadie Mae.
As she grew Sadie Mae fell more in love with the swamp and all its creatures. Her best friend was a cottonmouth called Claudette. She grew up wild and free with Claudette and the other critters. Every day they would swing from the branches of the old Bald Cypruss tree then dress up with the moss. After they would swim till they were worn out.
Sadie was kind and took care of all the swamp creatures. When possum lost one of her babies Sadie helped her find it. Once the crane got stuck in a mud hole and Sadie came to her rescue. Anytime she heard “Aieee woe is me” she knew one of her friends was in trouble and came running.
One day Jean Baptist was minding his own business when he saw a whole chicken hanging from a tree oooooh wheee it smelled so good he had to have a bite. But as soon as he clamped down on that chicken he was stuck, he couldn’t get free no matter how he rolled and shook.
“Aieee woe is me” hollered Jean Baptist
Across the steamy swamp Sadie Mae heard his call and rushed to help her Pappa. She saw the rope holding him coming out of his mouth. Quick as a flash she jumped down and cut that rope then tenderly took the treble hook out of his mouth.
“Thank you, Sadie Mae, I am glad I didn’t eat you when I had the chance” whispered Jean Baptiste “I sure do love you”
“I love you too Pappa”
Sadie Mae jumped on her Pappa’s back and swam away with Claudette not far behind.
If you ever find yourself in the swamp just yell “aieee woe is me” and you might just meet Sadie Mae.
The Car
The Uber was a new black sedan with tented windows. I checked my app and the license plate, this was my ride so I climbed in the back seat. The driver didn’t turn around I did not think anything of it sometimes they are not very friendly. When I confirmed his name the black fedora he wore nodded confirmation. The music came up slowly one of my favorite songs, maybe this won’t be so bad.
The ride felt like it was longer than it should be I was only going up town. As I looked out the window I realized I did not recognize anything. My heart started pounding so I called to him “Do you have the right address I think we are going the wrong way. He didn’t answer just chuckled. Oh my god I have heard about this am I going to be raped or killed. I felt my blood become icy.
The car finally rolled to a stop and he turned around. His face was painted like a skull beard braided and hanging down from his chin his eyes were wild and the pupils looked red. This is it I am a dead woman. He gestured to the graveyard we were parked beside. He did not say a word but opened the door grabbed my arm and started walking me towards a crowd gathered in the street all looking at the same thing. It was a woman that had been hit by a car. Her limbs were unnaturally askew but her face, her face was mine.
What was this, am I dead, what is going on? My mother’s words came back to me” are you saved” was I? As a child I was confident in my religion and did all the things expected of me. As I grew older, I saw the corruption and hate organized religion spread in the world. I turned my back on it but now I didn’t know.
“Am I going to hell” He spoke in a soft kind voice as we walked away from the wreckage that was my body. “Do you think you deserve hell?” “I don’t know my mother said…”
“We don’t hold to the new religions only the ones from the trees, the ocean, the sky. Now follow me ” As much as I wanted to flee from this craziness, I felt compelled to follow him. He went through the graveyard to a grove of trees in the back. Once there he stood on the roots of the biggest tree I have ever seen. He placed both hands on the tree and said “we are here to worship and thank you”. He then held out one hand to me and left one on the tree.
When I took his hand, I felt a kind of peace I had never imagined and relaxed into whatever this was. He pulled me into the tree and I saw color and light beautiful images floated across my eyes. I closed my eyes but still saw the beauty and light. I heard wonderful music that I had never heard before instruments I could not name. I felt his hand slip from mine. When I opened my eyes again nothing had changed except my body. I looked down and there was not one arm or leg not a torso nothing I was floating. Becoming a part of the music and the beautiful lights and colors. My mom was wrong this was heaven I made it.
If you got this far thanks for reading. I know the two stories are opposites but that is the brain of a bipolar bettie every day is an adventure. Hope your May dosnt’t bring too much Mayday.
